About

Common Perplexities is an initiative by Shia Muslim youth who seek a clearer understanding of their religion. Many youth face the struggle of reconciling ideas presented by the broader society, especially in schools and universities, with those of Islam. Secular education systems are often based on paradigms that contradict the Islamic worldview. These non-Islamic paradigms have been normalised by society, often leading youth to engage in debate, with others or themselves, on the fundamentals of Islam.

While seeking answers to these questions is valid, some struggle to find satisfying responses to these queries. They often feel that finding the answers requires contacting a scholar, browsing many videos, or reading extensively.

The purpose of Common Perplexities is to answer common questions that youth come across by consolidating information from credible sources and presenting it in a simple and understandable manner.

While all content on this platform is reviewed and vetted by both male and female scholars from the North American Shia community, these questions are researched and answered by the youth, for the youth themselves. Common questions under various themes are released regularly throughout the year.

The answers have been read and approved by:

Maulana Sayyid Muhammad Rizvi

Sheikh Jaffer H. Jaffer

Sr. Tahera Kassamali

We pray that this initiative serves as a tool to help young Muslims navigate the perplexities of today’s worldview  and contributes to their understanding in preparation for the coming of Imam Mahdi (a).
